Introductory Workshop:
Understanding Global Citizenship Education

We all share responsibilities, rights, and obligations as global citizens.
To build a better world together, global citizenship is no longer optional—it’s essential.

This introductory workshop offers a starting point for understanding what it means to be a global citizen in today’s interconnected world.

Through this session, participants will explore:

  • Background and core principles of Global Citizenship Education (GCED)

  • Key learning areas and how they apply to real-world contexts

  • Pedagogical approaches that support reflection, dialogue, and action

Designed for educators, facilitators, and anyone interested in transformative education, this workshop helps participants reflect on shared global challenges and consider how their own thoughts and actions can lead to meaningful change.

Key Contents

Participants will explore the background and core values of Global Citizenship Education (GCED),
and gain a deeper understanding of it as part of the international education agenda.

We will reflect on pressing global challenges—such as inequality, discrimination, hate, and the climate crisis—
and examine them through the lens of global citizenship.

To integrate GCED into educational practice, we will review how its values and themes are addressed in our national curriculum, and discuss concrete strategies and approaches for implementing them in classrooms, schools, and local communities.

In addition, we will introduce the work of active global citizens and share real-life examples of GCED in action,
opening up a space to explore its potential and possibilities.
