Place-based Learning

We aim to develop learners’ competencies to connect knowledge with real life through relevant and value-driven education.

What is learned goes beyond textbooks and classrooms—learners are empowered to make autonomous judgments, think critically based on a sense of community, and act responsibly.

To achieve this, learning experiences must be connected to learners’ own lives and real-world contexts.

Place-based learning provides opportunities to discover this connection and explore ways to put it into practice.

Key Contents

Place-based learning supports learners in situating their learning within the context of their local community.

Learning takes place not only through the physical environment but also through relationships with local culture, history, and people.

Learners engage with their surrounding environment, community, and local issues, connecting their learning directly to real life.

Place-based learning is recognized as an effective approach and tool for practicing value-driven education.

This workshop explores concrete ways to implement place-based learning and examines examples from both domestic and international contexts.

Learning Flow

It consists of understanding place-based learning, methods and strategies for implementation, and sharing of case studies.

Understanding PBL

An introduction to the characteristics, core values, learning methods, and significance of place-based learning.

Explore how PBL connects learners’ learning with real life, ensuring that learning extends beyond the classroom.

Methods & Strategies

This section introduces step-by-step planning and execution strategies for implementing place-based learning (PBL).

In particular, it covers the learning cycle composed of the following stages: concept learning, gaining experience, analysis and reflection, and application.

Case Sharing

Examples of place-based learning (PBL) practices from both domestic and international contexts are introduced, followed by exploring ways to apply these examples to one’s own teaching or classroom.

Participants then design project plans tailored to their own contexts.
